Regular price £75.20 Save £-75.20ABOUT THE WINE
In 1991, Peter Weimer gave up corporate life in Switzerland and moved to Piedmont, purchasing Cascina Ebreo. They released their first vintage in 1996, and have since won great acclaim for their unusual, expressive wines.
TASTING NOTES
Produced from late-harvested grapes, aged for 30 months in Austrian oak barrels, released only when ready for drinking. Liquorice, coffee, tobacco and black cherry aromas; fresh and powerful on the palate with rich red fruit and a long, liquorice-etched finish.
FOOD PAIRING
Demands bold flavours. Delicious with game meat, rich stews and blue cheese.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Torbido is produced in the Barolo region, from 100% Nebbiolo, as the appellation demands. However, in order to achieve classification under the Barolo DOCG, the wine must pass inspection by a committee, and when this certification was requested, the wine was rejected, on the grounds that it was cloudy – ‘Torbido’! This is due to the lack of filtration on all of the wines from Cascina Ebreo, a practice which arguably has a positive effect on the quality and ageing potential of the wines.
