ABOUT THE WINE
Since 1989, the Bührer family has transformed Saxenburg Wine Estate from a forgotten farmstead into a leading voice in Stellenbosch winemaking. Now run by second-generation custodians Fiona and Vincent Bührer, the estate champions the unique terroir of the Polkadraai Hills, an elevated sub-region known for its distinctive soils and expressive wines. With a focus on minimal intervention and natural balance, Saxenburg produces wines that reflect the soul of the Cape Winelands, combining Old World finesse with New World energy.
TASTING NOTES
The 2017 Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold yet elegant red with polished structure and depth. Aromas of tobacco leaf, ripe plum, and blackcurrant unfold into a palate defined by youthful, velvety tannins and a finely weighted finish. A pure expression of Polkadraai Hills Cabernet, showcasing both power and restraint — ideal for cellaring or enjoying now with decanting.
FOOD PAIRING
An excellent partner for barbecued meats, braised beef shank casserole, or lamb chops. The wine’s structure and dark fruit profile also make it ideal with smoked brisket, game meats, or aged cheddar.
