ABOUT THE WINE
Domaine Alain Gueneau is a family-run estate located in the village of Sury-en-Vaux, in the heart of the Sancerre AOC. With 16 hectares of vineyards planted on steep limestone slopes, Alain and his children Elisa and Dominique work together to craft wines of exceptional purity and precision. Though Sancerre is best known for its whites, this Sancerre Rouge 2019, made from 100% Pinot Noir, is a fine example of the region’s potential for elegant, aromatic red wines.
TASTING NOTES
Brilliant ruby in colour, this Loire Valley red offers an aromatic bouquet of black cherry, blackberry jam, and cacao, lifted by hints of wormwood and toasted spice. On the palate, it is silky and supple, with flavours of cherries in brandy, nutmeg, and a touch of tobacco. Light-bodied yet complex, with refined structure and finesse.
FOOD PAIRING
Ideal with pork, pink lamb, or duck. For cheese pairings, try Camembert or goat’s cheese. For something unexpected, this Pinot Noir also pairs beautifully with lightly smoked salmon.
