ABOUT THE WHISKY
Set in Glen Fiddich - Scottish Gaelic for the valley of the deer - Dufftown was founded by the 4th Earl of Fife to provide employment after the Napoleonic Wars. Thanks to the naturally pure water it soon became the centre of the distilling industry and today lays claim to the title of malt whisky capital of the world. One of the seven original distilleries of Dufftown, Glendullan was founded in 1897 by Aberdeen blender and broker William Williams and the whisky soon became a favourite dram of Edward VII. Although one of the largest distilleries in terms of production over the years the majority of the single malt produced provided liquid for blends such as William's and Old Parr or The Singleton of Glendullan brand (launched in 2007 as an exclusive for the North American market). Glendullan utilises long fermentation (in a mix of stainless steel and wood) and slow distillation to produce a lightly fruity malt that bursts with character.
TASTING NOTES
The nose is finely balanced between the richer, honeyed notes and more softer, fruitier aromas and brings to mind beeswax; toffee apple; rhubarb and custard. The palate is rich and chewy with a waxy, mouth coating quality that is steeped in the flavours of barley; vanilla; orchard fruits and candied grapefruit. A lovely long and rounded finish is packed with creamy oats, barley sugar and golden syrup.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
A UK exclusive with only 219 bottles produced this deliciously rich and balanced malt is our favourite of the Summer 2022 releases from James Eadie.
