FRIARWOOD SAYS
"Château Langoa Barton is uniquely special among the 1855 Classified Growths, as it remains owned by the same family who held it at the time of the classification. The 2012 vintage is a testament to the estate’s dedication to crafting wines of depth, elegance, and enduring charm."
ABOUT THE WINE
The Barton family, owners of Château Langoa Barton, have a Bordeaux legacy dating back to 1722, when they left Ireland to establish a new life in France. In 1821, they purchased an estate in Saint-Julien, Pontet-Langlois, renaming it Langoa Barton. The 25-hectare vineyard benefits from a relatively cool terroir, located inland from the Gironde estuary in the heart of the appellation. With a commitment to traditional winemaking, only 50% new oak barrels are used, creating wines of timeless elegance that are crafted for ageing rather than immediate opulence. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The 2012 vintage reflects the estate’s dedication to excellence and is best enjoyed 10-15 years from vintage.
TASTING NOTES
The 2012 Château Langoa Barton exudes a classic Saint-Julien profile, offering aromas of black cherries, cassis, and cedar, with subtle hints of graphite and baking spices. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine showcases fine-grained tannins, ripe dark fruit flavors, and balanced acidity. With its refined structure, it is approachable now but will reward additional cellaring. Decanting enhances its aromatic complexity.
FOOD PAIRING
Pair this wine with steak, beef burgers, or aged hard cheeses. It also pairs beautifully with slow-cooked lamb or hearty mushroom dishes.
