FRIARWOOD SAYS

The 2015 Château Batailley is an exceptional Pauillac, showcasing the vintage’s elegance, structure, and complexity. Ready to drink now or cellar for decades to enjoy its evolving character.

ABOUT THE WINE

Château Batailley, the esteemed flagship of Borie-Manoux and the Castéja family, is one of the Médoc’s oldest and most prestigious estates. Named after a significant battle during the Hundred Years’ War, this estate blends historic significance with modern winemaking mastery. The 2015 vintage is a remarkable testament to the estate’s pursuit of balance, finesse, and depth. Grapes were hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and fully de-stemmed before vinification in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation took place in a combination of tanks and oak barrels, followed by 16 months of aging in 60% new French oak, resulting in a beautifully structured and refined wine.

TASTING NOTES

The 2015 Château Batailley bursts with aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, interwoven with notes of cedar, tobacco, and baking spices. The palate reveals concentrated flavours of plum, blackcurrant, and graphite, complemented by hints of mocha and vanilla. Silky tannins provide structure and balance, while the wine’s vibrant acidity leads to a long, elegant finish with touches of cocoa and violets.

FOOD PAIRING

Pair this refined vintage with herb-crusted lamb, beef Wellington, or braised duck legs for an elevated experience. It also complements earthy dishes such as wild mushroom risotto or roasted root vegetables. For a cheese pairing, try aged Comté, Gouda, or blue cheese to highlight the wine’s depth and subtle spice notes.
