ABOUT THE WINE
Château Coutet, one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Barsac appellation of Bordeaux, has been crafting exceptional Sauternes-style sweet wines since the 17th century. Recognised as a Premier Cru Classé in the historic 1855 Classification, Château Coutet is celebrated for its rich and balanced wines. The 2014 vintage benefited from favourable weather conditions, allowing for the ideal development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which concentrates the grapes' sugars and aromas. Crafted from a blend of 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle, the 2014 Château Coutet showcases the estate’s dedication to quality and tradition.

TASTING NOTES
The 2014 Château Coutet exhibits a stunning golden colour and an aromatic bouquet of honeyed apricots, ripe pineapple, and candied citrus peel, interwoven with subtle hints of vanilla and white flowers. On the palate, the wine offers a luxurious, creamy texture, balanced by a lively acidity that keeps the sweetness in perfect harmony. Layers of tropical fruits, orange blossom, and delicate spice emerge, with a lingering minerality and a long, opulent finish that highlights the elegance of this Barsac vintage.

FOOD PAIRING
This exceptional Premier Cru Barsac pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, and rich pâtés. Its vibrant sweetness also complements fruit-based desserts such as tarte tatin, crème brûlée, and poached pears. For a more adventurous pairing, enjoy it with spicy Asian dishes or Thai curries, as the wine’s acidity and sweetness perfectly balance bold, savoury flavours. Serve chilled at 10-12°C for optimal enjoyment.

FRIARWOOD SAYS
The 2014 Château Coutet is a captivating expression of Barsac’s terroir, delivering richness, freshness, and age-worthy complexity. This vintage is drinking beautifully now, yet its structure promises further development over the next 20-30 years, making it a must-have for collectors and connoisseurs of fine sweet wines. A truly elegant example of what makes Château Coutet one of the most revered producers of Sauternes-style Bordeaux.
