"Limited to only 12,000 cases, the 2018 vintage is a standout example of Château Labégorce’s continued ascent under the stewardship of Marjolaine de Coninck. This vintage offers exceptional balance and complexity, making it a head-turning Margaux for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Best enjoyed after 5-7 years of cellaring, the wine will continue to evolve beautifully over the next two decades. A true expression of the Margaux terroir, this wine is a must-have for lovers of Bordeaux’s Left Bank."
ABOUT THE WINE
Nestled adjacent to renowned estates like Château Margaux and Château Lascombes, Château Labégorce boasts a rich history dating back to 1332, as recorded in the 1868 edition of Cocks and Feret's Bordeaux and its Wines. It was described as "one of the most exquisite and well-situated properties in the town of Margaux." Purchased by the Perrodo family in 1989, the estate underwent extensive renovations to its château and vineyard, elevating winemaking techniques. Today, Château Labégorce is celebrated for producing wines with exceptional structure, fresh fruit, and remarkable finesse. The Perrodo family also owns Château Marquis d'Alesme, a third-growth Margaux, reinforcing their reputation for crafting top-tier Bordeaux wines.
The 2018 vintage reflects a near-perfect growing season, producing a wine of exceptional character. Under the skilled guidance of Marjolaine de Coninck, the estate has seen consistent quality improvements, solidifying its position as one of Margaux’s rising stars.
TASTING NOTES
The 2018 Château Labégorce is a blend of 52% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, aged in 45% new French oak barrels and 55% one-year-old barrels. It showcases a deep garnet-purple hue and a captivating bouquet of blackcurrant, kirsch, and raspberries, with delightful undertones of violets, dark chocolate, and mint. Medium-bodied with silky tannins, it delivers an elegant and fresh palate, concluding with a long, aromatic finish that embodies the finesse of Margaux wines.
FOOD PAIRING
This Margaux pairs beautifully with truffle aioli-topped chicken heart and liver croquettes, seared venison with wild sorrel reduction, and potatoes dauphinoise. Its elegance and depth also make it an excellent choice for fine dining occasions.
