PRODUCER NOTES:
A family-owned winery, founded in 1940 by Antonio Casano, located in the far west of Sicily, in the town of Marsala. The history and vine-growing heritage of the region is reflected in the nature of the vineyards, the soils and the historic buildings in which the wines of Baglio Inca are vinified. Most of the wines produced are from indigenous varieties.
TASTING NOTES:
The wines made from Grillo are of a light and bright straw yellow colour. The fruity and citrus aromas are integrated with the floral notes of wildflowers and orange blossoms. On the palate, the wine is fresh, well structured with a pleasant, slightly savoury and mineral finish. Grillo wines are wines that go best with fish and shellfish, even raw, and fresh cheese platters.
FOOD PAIRING:
we recommend pairing Grillo with Busiate with Trapani-style pesto sauce or Octopus salad. Additional suggestions include goat cheese, peach, honey, and mint crostini, cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto, citrus glazed sea bass, grilled peach and chicken salad, and grilled lemon chicken.
FRIARWOOD SAYS:
Grillo, once primarily used in Marsala, has now found its own identity, producing fresh, balanced wines like the 2022 Alagna Grillo Griari. Known for withstanding Sicily's heat while maintaining good acidity, it's a testament to Sicilian winemaking heritage. Explore our food pairing suggestions to find your favourite match.
