ABOUT THE WINE
The Portuguese DOC of Dao is one of the oldest demarcated wine-regions in the world. Located inland in the northern part of the country -120km southeast of Porto - the area has an ancient tradition of wine production, with warm dry summers and abundant winter rainfall. With 6 hectares of vines, planted in 2000 with traditional grape varieties in the heart of the Dao region, the Kelman family seeks to build their own legacy in this beautiful region. Their wines are produced with minimal intervention - following integrated production practices and sustainable agricultural methods (such as no additional irrigation and manually harvesting) together with a rational use of resources that all aim to help preserve local ecosystems.
TASTING NOTES
The Touriga Nacional component spends 12 months in new French oak, resulting in a profound, dark, and opulent wine. Aromas of ripe black fruit intermingle with hints of exotic spice, while the palate boasts luscious dark berries and a whisper of cardamom. Remarkable intensity and length characterize this exquisite wine, which promises outstanding ageing potential.
FOOD PAIRING
This wine is a versatile companion for a wide range of beef dishes, from filet mignon with a red wine reduction to smoky barbecue brisket sliders. It also pairs beautifully with slow-cooked lamb shanks, mushroom stroganoff, or a rich eggplant Parmesan.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
The grapes for this wine undergo gentle extraction through traditional foot-treading in lagars, preserving the integrity of the fruit. Additionally, the winery refrains from using any animal-derived products in the winemaking process, ensuring a completely vegan-friendly wine.
