ABOUT THE WINE
At the end of the 18th century, the busy streets of Jerez de la Frontera were proof of the bustling activity in the city, which was thriving thanks to the exports of its renowned wines.Juan Sanchez de la Torre established the foundations of the firm Sanchez Romate Hermanos, one of the few remaining wineries in the Jerez Designation of Origin which is still in the hands of local owners.Today, the wines and brandies of Sanchez Romate maintain their international spirit, with a firm commitment to expansion across the rest of the world.
TASTING NOTES
Dark brown with a green tint, showing that it was made from white grapes. This heavily raisinated wine dazzles with a decadent sweetness, which comes through with intense flavours of figs, prunes, pomegranate reduction, balsamic vinegar, caramel, toffee, toasted almonds, hazelnut and sweet tobacco. One of the most intensely flavoured wines in the world and certainly not a shy one. A wine to savour slowly.
FOOD PAIRING
Stilton cheese, along with other blue and strong-flavoured cheese. Great with vanilla ice cream as well.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Sherry is a good alternative to wine if you like bigger bolder flavours.
