ABOUT THE WINE
Brunello di Montalcino owes its existence to the creative genius of Clemente Santi and his nephew Ferruccio Biondi Santi who in the 1800s started producing barrel-aged single-varietal wines in Montalcino, betting on the extraordinary quality potential of Sangiovese grape. The first Biondi Santi wine was made in 1888, and they've been producing uncompromising quality Brunello ever since.
TASTING NOTES
Aromas of currants, fresh herbs and blackberries with hints of wet stones and liquorice follow through to a full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Initially tight and muscular, this wine is beginning to soften with age. A fabulous wine which is firmly in it's drinking window. Aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years.
FOOD PAIRING
Pairs well with mature cheeses, game, braised red meats, roasts and grilled meats. For a classic pairing, try Tuscan meat dishes.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
A truly exceptional vintage. June was rainy on average and was followed by a dry July. Light showers occurred in August, followed by a warm and dry harvest season.
