ABOUT THE WINE
Confiscated from the Carmelite monks during the French Revolution, Château Rieussec saw a series of owners over the subsequent centuries until it was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984. Rigorous grape-selection, longer barrel-ageing and meticulous quality-control enhanced the reputation and prestige of the estate.
TASTING NOTES
Characterised by a distinct savoury and smoky character, the 2010 comes across with a ginger spice, with a tropical note of guava & pineapple. Refreshingly tart and fresh, but balanced with the warm allspice and clove spices. An unbelievably balanced and complex vintage, which makes it an unmissable bottle.
FOOD PAIRING
Fantastic with butter-rich desserts such as mille-feuille or even on the savoury side, it could be paired with cooked salty clams or oysters Rockefeller.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
This wine spent extra time in barrel to tame the effects of the warm vintage.
